Trident continues on its positive trend as MSE index posts marginal gains

The MSE Equity Total Return Index climbed by a minimal 0.046% to finish trading at 8,613.912 points. In the equities market, a turnover of €430,840 was generated over 49 transactions. A total of 12 equities were active, as headers narrowly outnumbered fallers five to four.
All four equities in the banking industry were active, but only HSBC Bank Malta plc registered a price movement. The equity close 1.11% higher at €1.82 after a single deal of 1,640 shares. Bank of Valletta plc was the most liquid security, generating a turnover of €202,578 but its share price closed unchanged at €1.82. Lombard Bank Malta plc and Fimbank plc also closed unchanged after despite registering one deal each.
Trident Estates plccontinued with its impressive start to trading as it was once again the best performer of the day, gaining another 5.56% to reach the €1.80 price level. The equity was traded rather heavily as 30,100 shares were exchanged across eight trades.
GO plc was also traded on heavy volumes generating a turnover of €72,608.50 over five deals. The result was a more modest gain of 0.56% to close at €3.56.
The gain recorded in the previous session by RS2 Software plc proved unsustainable as it surrendered most of these gains by drifting 2.86% lower today, retracting to a price of €1.33. A total of nine deals generated a considerable turnover of €43,331.
Malta International Airport plc issued an announcement yesterday, stating that it has started 2018 with an upswing of 16.7% in passenger numbers during the first month of the year. A number of route developments and increased flight frequencies during the winter season contributed to a 15.2% increase in aircraft movements and 16.8% increase in seat capacity. Seat load factor however, decreased by a marginal 1.1 percentage points during the previous month. In spite of this positive announcement, the share price declined by 2.04% to close at €4.80. Trading volumes amounted to 3,000 shares across three deals.
In the property sector, three equities registered a single deal each. MIDI plc posted gains of 2.86% to reach €0.36 over 10,000 shares. The share prices of Malita Investments plc and Malta Properties Company plc moved in the opposite direction as they posted losses of 1.19% and 1.96% respectively.
PG plc gained 1.46% to close at €1.39, the outcome of a single deal of jst 150 shares.
The sovereign debt market registered a marginally negative performance as five out of the 10 active issues registered a fall in price, while three appreciated. Topping the list of fallers was the short dated 7.8% MGS 2018 which saw its price retreat by 0.30%. Conversely, the 5.25% MGS 2030 moved upwards by a minimal 0.06%.
In the corporate debt market, 23 issues were traded as seven issues experienced a downward movement and nine traded in positive territory. The strongest performance was that of the 5.5% Pendergardens Developments plc Secured € 2020 Series I which climbed by 0.72%. On the other hand, the 5% Hal Mann Vella Group plc Secured Bonds € 2024 moved by 1.39% in the opposite direction.
