Property sector pushes MSE Index higher

MSE Daily Trading Report, February 13, 2018

The MSE Equity Total Return Index gained 0.177%, to end the session at 8,598.925 points. From the nine active equities, gainers and non-movers tallied at four apiece while only one equity traded lower. A total of 43 deals generated a turnover of €591,115.83.

HSBC Bank Malta was the most liquid equity in the banking industry, and also the only banking equity to register a price movement. The share price recaptured the €1.82 level as a turnover of €34,471 was generated across four deals. Bank of Valletta plc closed unchanged at the same price level in spite of seven deals in which 17,519 shares were exchanged.

In the property sector, Malita Investments plc posted solid gains of 1.22% to reach €0.83 as a result of nine transactions worth a combined €32,963.

Malta Properties Company plcfollowed suit as a single deal of 15,000 shares pushed the share price up by 1.27% to €0.48.

In the same sector,Trident Estates plc continued on its ascent as two transactions of a combined 515 shares pushed the share price further upwards by 2.09%, closing at €1.95.

Following yesterday’s negative performance, RS2 Software plc drifted a further 0.76% lower to end the session at €1.30. The equity was traded three times as 7,000 shares were traded.

Simonds Farsons Cisk plc was by far the most liquid equity of the session as an impressive turnover of €454,917 was generated over nine trades. The equity however closed unchanged at €7.45.

Similarly, International Hotel Investments plc andMalta International Airport plc traded flat despite registering five deals between them.

The sovereign debt market experienced mixed performances, as from the 15 active issues, eight gained, while seven closed in the red. The 2.3% MGS 2029 headed the list of gainers as it increased in value by 0.24%, to close at €109.01. On the other hand, the 4.3% MGS 2033 drifted 1.83% lower to €131.55.

More than half of the active corporate debt instruments closed unchanged, as a total of 20 issues were active during the session. Fallers amounted to six, while only two issues headed north. The largest positive price movement was recorded by the 6% Mediterranean Investments Holding plc Euro 2021, which increased by 3.63%. At the other end of the spectrum, the 5.1% 6PM Holdings plc Unsecured € 2025 declined by 1.02%, to €96.01.
