MSE Index surrenders previous gains

MSE Daily Trading Report, April 16, 2018

The MSE Equity Total Return Index surrendered the gains registered in the previous two sessions as it drifted 0.479% lower to close at 8,539.568 points. A total turnover of €198,063 was generated over 27 deals. Seven equities were active, four of which traded in negative territory while another one traded higher.

HSBC Bank Malta plcwas the most liquid equity of the session as the nine recorded transactions generated a turnover of €97,138. As a result, the equity continued on a positive trend, closing 1.17% higher at a price of €1.73.

Also in the banking industry, Bank of Valletta plc traded flat at €1.77 across six deals of a combined 14,490 shares.

PG plc shares traded three times as 12,750 shares changed hands. The outcome was a 0.76% decrease in value, closing at €1.30.

In the property sector, a single trade of 50,000 Malita Investments plc shares dragged the share price down 1.19% to €0.83

A total of 6,775 International Hotel Investments plc sharestraded over four deals, all executed at €0.60, translating to a 3.23% price decline.

RS2 Software was down 5.59% to €1.35 as trading volume amounted to 2,500 shares.

Malta International Airport plcclosed unchanged at €4.88 despite two transactions of a combined 2,000 shares.

In the corporate debt market, 19 issues were active, five of which headed south while four posted gains. Heading the list of fallers was the 6% Mediterranean Investments Holding plc Euro 2021 which shed 2.69% in value on slim volume. The top performer was the 3.75% Premier Capital plc Unsecured € 2026 with a 0.78% increase in value.

In the sovereign debt market, performance was rather balanced, as from the 11 active issues, fallers amounted to five and gainers totaled four. The worst performer was the2.5% MGS 2036 (I) as it lost 0.25% in value to €108. On the other end of the spectrum, the 2.3% MGS 2029 (II) was up 0.35%.
