Corporate and Sovereign bond yields move in opposite directions

The MSE Total Return Index was up 0.214% during a very positive session, to close at 8,743.383 points. A total of nine equities were active,as five securities posted gains while not a single equity traded in negative territory. An impressive turnover of €1,085,975was generated over 85 transactions.
In the banking industry, Bank of Valletta plc posted a modest gain of 0.29%, reaching €1.745. A total of 29,848 shares were exchanged over 13 transactions.
In the same sector, HSBC Bank Malta plc followed suit as eight transactionsof a combined 50,700 shares,pushed the share price up by 0.55% to €1.84.FIMBank plc was also active on slim volumes, however the equity closed unchanged at $0.54.
Malta International Airport plctraded eight times,as 70,600 shares changed hands. As a result, the equity climbed 0.4%,to a price of €5.00.
The top performer of the session was property firm, Malita Investments plc, as shares hiked 3.47% to €0.895. Trading volume amounted to 16,067 shares across a couple of deals.
MIDI plc also enjoyed a positive session-climbing 0.41% to €0.49. This was the outcome of five transactions of 91,240 sharesin total.
Telecommunications company, GO plc was the most liquid equity,as a turnover of €515,720 was generated over 6 deals. The equity however closed unchanged at €3.44.
Elsewhere, RS2 Software plc and Trident Estates plc both closed unchanged at €1.23 and €1.31 respectively,despite trading on slim volume.
In the sovereign debt market, a total of 11 issues were active of which;seven advanced and three lost ground. The long-dated2.4% MGS 2041 (I)topped the list of gainers with a 0.95% increase in value, closing the session at € 106.50. Meanwhile, the 5.2% MGS 2031 (I) closed 0.08% lower at €142.78.
Yields in the corporate debt market moved in the opposite direction. A total of 18 issues were active during the session of which;nine declined and only tthree posted gains. The 4.25% GAP Group plc Secured € 2023 was up by 0.49% to €103. On the other hand, the 4.5% Hili Properties plc Unsecured € 2025 was the worst performer, as the price fell by 2.37%, to close at € 103.99.
