MSE Index starts the week positively

MSE Daily Trading Report, February 11, 2019

The MSE Total Return Index started off the week on a positive note as it closed 0.281% higher at 8,936.763 points. Out of seven active equities, three headed north while another two closed in the red. Total turnover,amounting to €171,226,was generated across 30 transactions involving 122,306 shares.

In the banking sector,Bank of Valletta plcshares declined by 0.78% to €1.27, as 13 transactionsinvolving 41,438 shares were executed, ending the session with a total turnover value of €52,754. Its peer, HSBC Bank Malta plc closed unchanged at €1.74over four trades of 6,680 shares.

Heading the list of gainers, Mapfre Middlesea plc was2.56% up to a price of €2.00, as 10,585 shares were spread across two transactions, generating a total turnover of €21,170.

Similarly, two transactions involving 6,934 International Hotel Investments plc sharespushed the price upwardsby 2.46% to €0.625. Total turnover amounted to €4,328.

Malta International Airport plcalso gainedground as it closed 0.78% higher at €6.50. A total of 1,730 shares changed hands across two transaction, ending the session with a total turnover of €11,245.

Ending the day on a negative note, Malita Investments plc lost 1.1%in value, to close at €0.90, as three transactions involving 9,160 shares were executed. Total turnover generated amounted to €8,299.

Elsewhere, PGplcwas the most liquid equity with a turnover of €61,802,butitclosedunchanged at €1.35.

In the corporate debt front, out of ten active issues, three went up while another two saw a decline. A single transaction of 4% Eden Finance plc Unsecured € 2027 registered a gain of 1.34% to €104.99. On the other hand, the 4.4% Von der Heyden Group Finance plc Unsecured € 2024 lost 0.24% as price went down to €102.75.

In the Sovereign debt market, a total of 12 issueswere active, of which two closed in positive territory while the rest ended the session with a negative change in price. The 4.5% MGS 2028 (II) increased by just 0.02% to close off at €130.72. Conversely, the largest fall in price of 0.34% was registered by the 2.4% MGS 2041 (I) as the bond closed the session 0.34% lower at €109.13.
