New president of the Malta Investment Funds Association

Jesmond Mizzi has been elected president of the Malta Investment Funds Association, following the retirement of Paul V. Azzopardi. Mr Mizzi is chairman and managing Director of Jesmond Mizzi Financial Services Ltd and chairman of First Retirement Planning Ltd. Henrik Damato, senior manager at Growth Investments, was reconfirmed as secretary and treasurer of the association. The association, founded in September 2001, represents the funds’ industry; its main objective is the promotion of collective investment schemes in Malta, and abroad. The association played an important role in the tax legislation and regulations affecting the funds industry in recent years. At the annual general meeting of the association, the committee members present thanked the outgoing president, Mr Azzopardi, for his commitment to the financial services industry and the association during his term of office. Mr Mizzi stated that the association will be taking an active role in the development of the funds’ business, as Malta becomes a member of the European Union. The association is an active member of the newly set up Financial Services Consultation Council.
