Local Weekly Round Up: 7th – 15th December 2006

The MSE Index shed 0.52% on a weekly basis to close at 4,874.159. Twelve equities were active this week, four of which registered gains while six ended in negative territory. The total value traded was Lm1,162,121.46 while the total number of transactions amounted to 286.

The three main large caps all ended the week in negative territory. Bank of Valletta lost 0.28%, HSBC Bank Malta lost 1.01% while Maltacom plc edged slightly lower by 0.33%. HSBC was the most active and registered 96 trades for a value of over Lm125,000, while the activity in BOV shares was low as it registered 49 trades for a value of only Lm44,990.

Middlesea Insurance was the week’s worst performer as it recorded five transactions with 5,622 shares being traded to drop 4.76%. In addition, MIA lost 1.11% while Datatrak holdings plc also declined by 3.85% over the week.

The positive performers of the week were GlobalCapital which gained 5%, Medserv plc which added 3.05%, Simonds Farsons Cisk which gained 3.67% and IHI which share price gained marginally by 0.10%.
