Malta International Airport plc – Traffic Results – October 2013

Malta International Airport plc announced that passenger movements registered in October increased by 17.4 per cent over the same period last year, with 409,400 passengers in total.

October’s success was due to growth in all the major markets. Traffic from the UK grew by 2.4 per cent while traffic from Germany – the second biggest market – grew by 47.7 per cent. The growth in Germany was in part driven by the cruise and fly operation that extended to the month of October, as well as the added capacity in this market. Meanwhile, traffic from France, Italy and Spain by 29.8 per cent, 21.1 per cent and 15.6 per cent respectively.

Aircraft movements and seat capacity also increased by 14.8 and 15.2 per cent respectively in October over the same period last year.

 

The average seat load factor (SLF) duplicate increased by 1.5 percentage points to 81.6 per cent.

 

Meanwhile, the maximum take-off weight (MTOW) increased by 13.7 per cent and cargo mail increased by 4.7 per cent.

 

 

January – October 2013

 

 

Between January and October, there were over 3.5 million passenger movements, an increase of 9.9 per cent when compared to the same period last year. With aircraft movements registering an increase of 8.2% over the same ten months of 2012. The seat capacity increased by 9.6% whereas the average seat load factor increased by 0.2 percentage points over the same period in 2012. In the same period, the MTOW increased by 8.3% whereas Cargo and Mail decreased by 5.2% over the same period of 2012.Airport traffic broke records every month this year and, for the first time ever, even September and October reached figures previously only recorded during peak months.
