Jesmond Mizzi Financial Advisors Sponsors Redcoats
Jesmond Mizzi Financial Advisors Limited has announced its agreement to sponsor the Softball Gozo Cup. The sponsorship will fund the organisation of a tournament to be run by the Ghajnsielem Redcoats which is to be held annually in July. The first edition of this competition will be an all Redcoats affair. Four youth teams will compete in a double elimination softball tournament, which means that teams have to win two games to earn the right to contest the cup final.
The four youth teams of the Ghajnsielem Redcoats, Leinster Royals, Connaught Rangers, 63rd West Suffolk Sluggers and 31st Regiment Athletics, are named after British regiments that were stationed at Fort Chambray in Ghajnsielem during the nineteenth century. This was done in an effort to raise awareness of the rich heritage that is associated with Fort Chambray and Ghajnsielem.
The winners of the tournament will be presented with the silver plated Softball Gozo Cup and a set of medals sponsored by Jesmond Mizzi Financial Advisors Limited.
During the presentation of the sponsorship held last week at the offices of the company in Valletta, company Managing Director, Mr Jesmond Mizzi, commented that it is an honour for his company to support the Ghajnsielem Redcoats in their efforts to try to involve more girls and young women in sports. He noted that softball is a wonderful game that is very popular with females of various ages all over the world and he expects that it will continue to grow in popularity in Malta.
Joseph Scicluna, President of the Ghajnsielem Redcoats, thanked Mr Jesmond Mizzi and his company for their generous support. Mr Scicluna reported that the Redcoats have made remarkable progress towards their objective of promoting equality of access to sport and a culture of participation in sport among people of all ages through softball. He added that the increase in the number of participants brought with it an increase in the overheads of running the club. Sponsorship agreements such as this enable the club to continue to add to the number of teams within the club and to upgrade the equipment, improve the coaching and enhance the overall experience of their athletes.
The Ghajnsielem Redcoats participate in the tournaments and leagues organised by the Malta Baseball and Softball Association (MABS). The club has over 70 players registered with it, and seven teams participating in MABS U/9, U/13, U/15, women’s and the National Softball League competitions.
