MSE Index posts modest gain
MSE Daily Trading Report, 17 September, 2019
The MSE Equity Total Return Index registered a modest gain of 0.026% to reach 9,875.809 points. In total, nine equities were active, four of which traded higher while two declined. Total turnover in the equities market amounted to €149,793, spread over 23 deals.
Lombard Bank Malta plc was the best performer of the session, as its share price soared 5.66% to €2.24. A couple of trades of a combined 31,000 shares were executed.
The only other active equity in the banking sector, HSBC Bank Malta plc followed suit with a 0.7% gain to €1.43. Traded volume amounted to 24,750 shares over eight transactions.
In the insurance sector, a sole deal of 1,000 Mapfre Middlesea plc shares pushed the share price upwards by 0.93% to €2.16.
Medserv plc advanced 0.8% to close at €1.26, as a result of three trades of 5,835 shares.
A single transaction of 457 Malta International Airport plc shares shaved 1.28% off the share price, to close at €7.70.
MaltaPost plc was the worst performing equity, with a 3.76% loss in value to €1.28. This was the outcome of one transaction of just 526 shares.
Elsewhere, RS2 software plc closed unchanged at €1.90, despite five transactions of 8,300 shares.
PG plc and BMIT Technologies plc both closed unchanged at €1.75 and €0.52 respectively, as they both traded just once.
In the corporate debt market, 11 issues were active, of which three drifted lower and two posted gains. The top performer was the 3.75% Tumas Investments plc Unsecured € 2027 which climbed 1.42% to close at €107. The 4% International Hotel Investments plc Secured € 2026 recorded an identical movement in the opposite direction, closing at €102.52
The sovereign debt market was dominated by buying pressure, as from the 13 active issues, nine posted gains and the rest closed lower. The best performance was recorded by the 4.45% MGS 2032 (II), closing 0.41% higher at €150.33.
