MSE Index Positive as MIA plc and BOV plc head north

MSE Daily Trading Report, 23 September, 2019

The MSE Equity Total Return Index kicked off the week on a positive note as it closed 1.061% higher at 9,954.781 points. Nine equities were active, of which four advanced while another two closed in the red. A total turnover of €150,016 was generated across 19 deals.

Driving today’s gains were the banking equities, as one deal of 80 Bank of Valletta plc shares pushed its price to €1.17 with 1.30% gain. A slim turnover of €94 was generated.

Similarly, the best performer was FIMBank plc as two deals involving 9,500 shares resulted in a 4.84% increase to €0.65. Total turnover stood at $5,348.

Malta International Airport plc positively impacted the MSE Index as it registered a 4.17% gain to close at €7.50. A total turnover of €68,125 was generated as five deals involving 9,100 shares were executed.

Also ending the session in positive territory, International Hotel Investments plc shares were up by 1.82%, closing at  €0.84. Total turnover amounted to €19,820 as 23,605 shares changed ownership over four deals.

On the other side of the spectrum, Malta Properties Company plc headed the list of fallers with a 1.39% decline to €0.71. As two deals involving 17,480 shares were executed, a total turnover of €12,423 were recorded.

The telecommunications company, GO plc, also closed in the red. One deal of 600 shares pushed its price to €4.36 – translating to a 0.91% decline. Total turnover amounted to €2,616.  Meanwhile, its subsidiary, BMIT Technologies plc, despite being the most liquid equity, closed unchanged at €0.53. A sole deal of 37,735 shares was executed.

Elsewhere, Medserv plc and Santumas Shareholdings plc were both active but closed unchanged at €1.26 and €1.62, respectively.

In the corporate debt market, out of 18 active issues, four headed north while six closed in the opposite direction. The 4.5% Hili Properties plc Unsecured € 2025 headed the list of gainers with a 1.48% change in price to €102.50. Conversely, the 6% International Hotel Investments plc € 2024 lost 1.84% to €106.01.

In the sovereign debt market, 18 issues were active, of which 15 registered gains while the other three traded lower. The largest rise in price was registered by the 3% MGS 2040 (I) as it closed 1.02% higher at €144.
