HSBC pulls MSE Index into positive territory

The MSE Equity Total Return Index returned into positive territory as it closed 0.338% higher at 10,009.936 points. Out of 15 active equities, seven headed north while another two closed in the opposite direction. A total turnover of €456,666 was generated across 70 transactions.

Three equities were active in the banking sector, of which one registered a gain while the other two closed unchanged. HSBC Bank Malta plc was up by 2.14% to €1.43 as a sole deal of 3,000 shares was executed. Total turnover amounted to €4,290.

Its peer, Bank of Valletta plc, closed unchanged at €1.17 despite trading six times a spread of 102,084 shares. A total turnover of €119,082 was recorded. Similarly, Lombard Bank Malta plc also closed unchanged at €2.26. A total turnover of €2,486 was generated as a single deal of 1,100 shares was executed.

The best performance of 8% was recorded by GlobalCapital plc as it closed at €0.27. One deal of 9,721 shares generated a total turnover of €2,625.

In the property sector, all three active equities headed north. MIDI plc closed 6.45% higher at €0.66 as five deals involving 21,500 shares were executed. A total turnover of €13,133 was recorded.

Similarly, but to a lesser extent, one deal of 14,000 Malta Properties Company plc shares impacted its price with a positive 0.70%, as it closed at €0.715. Total turnover stood at €10,010.

Also in the property sector, Trident Estates plc registered a positive 0.54% movements in price. It ended the session with a total turnover of €15,122 as price went up to €1.86. A total of 8,130 shares changed ownership over two deals.

The telecommunications company, GO plc, increased to €4.38 as four deals involving 9,510 shares were executed. A total turnover of €41,654 was generated.

Its subsidiary, BMIT Technologies plc, was the most liquid equity during today’s session. A total of 148,165 shares changed hands across 17 deals, generating a total turnover of €78,572. As a result, price was up by 0.94% to close off at €0.535.

On the other side of the spectrum, two deals involving 10,000 International Hotel Investments plc shares pushed its price into the red. Price declined to €0.86 by 1.15% and a total turnover of €8,600 was recorded.

PG plc was also negatively impacted by a 0.53% change in price to €1.87. Total turnover amounted to €84,616 as six deals involving 45,150 shares were executed.

Three deals involving 2,144 Malta International Airport shares left no impact on its last traded price of €7.40. Total turnover amounted to €15.866.

Elsewhere, Simonds Farsons Cisk plc, MaltaPost plc and RS2 Software plc were all active but closed unchanged at €11.10, €1.35 and €1.91, respectively.

In the corporate debt market, out of 23 active issues, five registered gains while another 12 declined. The 5.1% 1923 Investments plc Unsecured € 2024 headed the list of gainers with a 0.89% rise to €102. Conversely, the highest fall in price of 0.99% was recorded by two issues, being the 5.1% 6PM Holdings plc Unsecured € 2025 and the 5.5% Mediterranean Investments Holding plc Unsecured € 2020. Both ended the session at par.

In the sovereign debt market, 15 issues were active, of which only one generated a positive return while the rest traded lower. The 2.2% MGS 2035 (I) increased to €125.74 by 0.08%.
