MSE Daily Trading Report, 29 October, 2019

The MSE Equity Total Return Index returned into positive territory as it closed 0.089% higher at 9,851.338 points. Total turnover in the equities market amounted to €286,823 as 57 deals were executed. Out of 15 active equities, three registered gains while another six closed in the red.

In the banking sector, three equities were active, of which two declined while the other one traded higher. HSBC Bank Malta plc was the only gainer in this sector as it closed 2.31% higher at €1.33. This resulted from three deals involving 7,682 shares, which generated a total turnover of €10,117.

On the other hand, 13 deals involving 36,516 Bank of Valletta plc shares dragged the share price by a further 0.46% lower to €1.085. Total turnover stood at €39,971.

Lombard Bank Malta plc was also active as 5,811 shares changed ownership across four transactions. As a result, price declined by 0.88% to €2.24, and a total turnover of €13,093 was recorded.

The best performer was the GO plc as it registered a further 2.36% gain to €4.34, following a sole deal of 1,200 shares. A total turnover of €5,208 was generated. Its subsidiary, BMIT Technologies plc was also active on a volume of 70,000 shares, but it closed unchanged at €0.53.

In the property sector, Trident Estates plc was the most liquid equity as 55,192 shares were spread over 10 deals, generating a total turnover of €81,767. Price fell down by 1.95% to €1.51.

Conversely, Malita Investments plc traded twice as a total of 10,000 shares worth €9,060 changed hands. A 0.56% rise in price was registered as it closed at €0.905.

Meanwhile, Tigne’ Mall plc was also active as it traded once over 2,000 shares. The price remained unchanged at €0.91.

Heading the list of fallers with a 5.08% movement in price, Mesderv plc ended the session at €1.12. Two deals involving 5,000 shares generated a total turnover of €5,600.

Also ending the session in the red, RS2 Software plc lost 1.96% as it closed at €2.00. A total turnover of €20,000 was recorded following the execution of two deals involving 10,000 shares.

Similarly, MaltaPost plc closed 1.56% lower at €1.26, as 3,203 shares changed ownership across four deals. Total turnover amounted to €4,036.

Malta International Airport plc was active but closed unchanged at €7.25. Four deals involving 4,412 shares generated a total turnover of €32,332.

Once again, the previous closing price of International Hotel Investments plc was not impacted as it closed at €0.845. A sole deal of 3,520 shares was executed and a total turnover of €2,974 was generated.

Elsewhere, Simonds Farsons Cisk plc and Plaza Centres plc were both active but closed unchanged at €12.10 and  €1.03, respectively.

In the corporate debt market, 22 issues were active, of which four headed north while another three declined. The 4% Merkanti Holding plc Secured € 2026 headed the list of gainers with a 0.99% rise to €102.

In the sovereign debt market, all 13 active equities closed in the red as yields headed north. The 2.4% MGS 2041 (I) registered the largest decline in price as it closed 1% lower at €130.57.
