Higher MSE Index as BOV and IHI head north

MSE Daily Trading Report, 05 November, 2019

The MSE Equity Total Return Index advanced by a further 0.214% as it closed at 9,839.749 points. A total of 14 equities were active, of which two advanced while another four closed in the red. A total turnover of €211,691 was generated across 27 deals.

The two gainers were both large cap equities. The best performer was the International Hotel Investments plc as one deal of 1,000 shares resulted into a 3.66% gain to €0.85. A total turnover of €850 was generated. The company announced its interim directors’ statements, whereby results show that year-end forecasts will be reached.

Bank of Valletta plc was up by  0.91% to €1.11. Total turnover of €22,151 was generated as four deals involving 20,000 shares were executed.

Two other equties were active in the banking sector. One deal of 346 HSBC Bank Malta plc shares left no impact on its previous closing price of €1.30. Similarly, FIMBank plc was active over three deals involving 11,460 shares but closed unchanged at $0.64.

Malta International Airport plc lost  part of its previous gain, as it closed 1.35% lower at €7.30. This was the result of two deals involving 2,902 shares. It ended the session with a total turnover of €21,455.

All three equities in the property sector closed in negative territory. Heading the list of fallers, Santumas Shareholdings plc declined by 6.67% as it traded once on a slim volume. The company announced that is has an authorised share capital of €2,337,500 divided into 8,500,000 ordinary shares with a nominal value of €0.275 each.

Similarly, Trident Estates plc traded twice over a spread of 11,300 shares, generating a total turnover of €17,120. Price was down by 1.32% to €1.50.

One deal of 7,500 MIDI plc shares pushed its price 2.82% lower to €0.69. A total turnover of €5,175 was recorded.

Despite being the most liquid equity in today’s trading session, Simonds Farsons Cisk plc share price closed unchanged. In total three trades generated a total revenue of €67,068.

The telecommunications company, GO plc, registered a total turnover of €8,680 as 2,000 shares were executed over a single deal. Its previous closing price of €4.34 was not altered. Similarly, its subsidiary, BMIT Technologies plc, was also active as 18,000 shares changed hands across two deals. The equity closed unchanged at €0.53 and generated a total turnover of €9,540.

Elsewhere, Plaza Centres plc, MaltaPost plc and RS2 Software plc were all active but closed unchanged at €1.03,  €1.25 and €2.00, respectively.

In the corporate debt market, 16 issues were active, of which four headed north while another seven closed in the opposite direction. The 5% Hal Mann Vella Group plc Secured € 2024 headed the list of gainers as it closed 1.23% higher at €102.10. No trades were recorded in the prospects market.

In the sovereign debt market, out of 13 active issues, only 2.1% MGS 2039 (I) registered a 0.80% gain to close at €126.
