Large Cap Equities drag MSE Index further down

MSE Daily Trading Report, 21 November, 2019

The MSE Equity Total Return Index declined by a further 0.369% as it closed at 9,734.771 points. Out of 11 active equities, two headed north while another six closed in the opposite direction. A total turnover of €108,057 was generated over 34 deals.

In the banking sector, both active equities ended the session in negative territory. Bank of Valletta plc reached a high price of €1.12 but closed in the red with a 0.45% decline to €1.095. A total of 29,442 equities changed ownership over 10 deals, generating a total turnover of €32,415. Its peer, HSBC Bank Malta plc traded twice on slim volume, resulting into a total turnover of €1,221. As a result, price went down by 1.55% to €1.27.

Another equity trading in the red was International Hotel Investments plc as it lost 0.62% to €0.80. This was the result of six deals involving 9,832 shares, which generated a total turnover of €7,962.

Similarly, Malta International Airport plc also registered a 0.69% decline, as it closed at €7.20. A spread of 2,000 shares were executed over two deals, generating a total turnover of €14,400.

Moving on to the property sector, three equities were active, of which two registered gains while another one closed unchanged. A sole deal of 530 Malita Investments plc shares pushed the price 1.67% higher to €0.915.  Five deals involving 22,300 Malta Properties Company shares resulted into a 3.03% increase to reach a price level of €0.68 – a total turnover of €14,868 was recorded. Meanwhile, MIDI plc was also active as it traded twice over 18,000 shares. Total turnover amounted to €11,700 while the previous closing price of €0.65 was left unaltered.

A sole deal of 1,000 Plaza Centres plc shares dragged the price 0.97% downwards to €1.02. Total turnover stood at €1,020.

Heading the list of fallers, Mesderv plc declined by 3.85% to €1.25 as a result of a sole deal of 500 shares.

Elsewhere, PG plc and Simonds Farsons Cisk plc were both active but closed unchanged at €1.79 and €11.50, respectively. Both equities traded two times. The former equity it generated a total turnover of €19,153 while the latter was active on slim volume worth €4,208.

Today, BMIT Technologies plc announced their interim directors’ report for the three-quarter period for the financial year ending December 31, 2019. The company announced a positive performance which is mainly reflected by the continued aim of the company to increase its service offerings.

In the corporate debt market, out of 19 active equities, six advanced while another seven closed in the red. The best performer was the 4% MIDI plc Secured € 2026 as it closed 1.79% higher at €105. There was no trading in the Prospects MTF market.

In the sovereign debt market, 12 issues were active, of which five registered gains while the rest lost ground. The 5.25% MGS 2030 (I) headed the list of gainers as it advanced by 0.67% to close at €150.
