MSE Index kicks off the week in the red

The MSE Equity Total Return Index did not manage to sustain its previous gain, as it lost 0.209%, to close at 9,400.321 points. Nine equities were active, of which one headed north while another four closed in the opposite direction. A total turnover of €336,789 was generated over 39 deals.
The sole gainer for the session was GO plc, as it registered a 0.48% increase, to close at €4.16. The equity was the most liquid, as total turnover stood at €208,414. This was the outcome of a total of 50,100 shares traded over two transactions. Meanwhile, its subsidiary, BMIT Technologies plc, traded once over 14,300 shares, but closed unchanged at €0.51.
In the banking sector, HSBC Bank Malta plc lost ground as it closed 0.85% lower at €1.17. Three deals involving 9,330 shares were executed, generating a total turnover of €10,996.
Its peer, Bank of Valletta plc was also active, as 34,029 shares changed hands across 14 deals. A total turnover of €35,390 was recorded and the bank’s previous closing price of €1.04 was left unaltered. Earlier today, the bank announced its temporary limited services and its two days of closure for business during the Christmas period.
Two property equities were active and both closed in the red. MIDI plc was down by 3.30% to €0.498, as five deals involving 52,001 shares were executed. Total turnover amounted to €25,997.
Similarly, five deals involving 7,745 Trident Estates plc shares, dragged the price 6.06% lower to €1.55, registering the largest decline for today’s session. This resulted into a total turnover of €12,005.
Plaza Centres plc also closed in negative territory, with a 0.99% decline to €1.00. A total turnover of €18,819 was generated over two deals.
Elsewhere, Malta International Airport plc and Simonds Farsons Cisk plc, were both active on slim volume but closed unchanged at €6.90 and €11.50, respectively.
In the corporate debt market, 21 issues were active, of which four registered gains while another eight lost ground. The 4% Eden Finance plc Unsecured € 2027 headed the list of gainers, as it closed 0.35% higher at €103.50.
In the sovereign debt market, out of 10 active issues, five advanced while another two traded lower. The best performer was the 4.5% MGS 2028 (II) as it recorded a 1.46% increase, to close at €139.
