MSE Daily Trading Report, 07 January, 2020

The MSE Equity Total Return Index declined to 9,515.635 points as it registered a 0.276% decline. Nine equities were active, of which three traded higher and another four closed in the red. A total turnover of €244,205 was generated over 36 deals.

In the banking industry three equities were active. Bank of Valletta plc lost part of its previous gain, as it closed 0.47% lower at €1.06. Eight deals involving 26,643 shares were executed, generating a total turnover of €28,307.

Meanwhile, its peer, HSBC Bank Malta plc, headed the list of gainers with a 1.69% increase, to close at €1.20. Total turnover stood at €23,125 as 19,436 shares changed ownership across eight deals.

Two deals involving a total of 5,686 Lombard Bank Malta plc shares dragged the price down by 4.39% to €2.18. A total turnover of €12,395 was recorded.

Malta International Airport plc managed to recoup its previous loss, as it ended the session at €6.90 – a 0.73% increase. The equity was active over two transactions with a spread of 1,542 shares, with a total worth of €10,640.

In contrast to yesterday’s performance, Mapfre Middlesea registered the largest daily price decline of 6.78%, as it closed at €2.20. The equity traded once on slim volume.

RS2 Software plc reached a low of €2.10 but gained ground during the day, as it closed 0.93% higher at €2.18. A total turnover of €60,056 was generated as 27,969 shares changed hands across 10 transactions.

The highest liquidity was recorded by International Hotel Investments plc, as total turnover amounted to €99,855. A total of 125,000 shares were exchanged over three deals as the equity slipped by 1.23%, to close at €0.80.

Elsewhere, GO plc and MaltaPost plc were both active but closed unchanged at €4.28 and €1.31, respectively.

Trading in Harvest Technology plc share issue commenced today. No trading activity was recorded while best offer price stood at €1.62.

In the corporate debt market, out of 20 active issues, nine headed north while another three closed in the opposite direction. The best performance was recorded by the 5% Tumas Investments plc Unsecured € 2024, as it closed 2.91% higher at €104.99. On the other hand, the 5% Hal Mann Vella Group plc Secured € 2024 lost 3.66%, to close at €104.

On the sovereign debt front, seven issues were active, of which four advanced while two declined. The 4.3% MGS 2033 (I) registered the largest increase in price of 1.43%, to close at €150. Conversely, the 5.1% MGS 2022(I) closed 0.28% lower, at €113.77.

In the prospects market, the 4.75% Gillieru Investments plc Secured Bonds 2028 closed 0.1% lower at €101.90 while the 5% Smartcare Finance plc Secured Bonds 2029 was active but closed unchanged at €101.98.
