MIA drags MSE Index by a further 1.716%

MSE Daily Trading Report, 10 March, 2020

The MSE Equity Total Return Index declined by a further 1.716% as it closed at 9,037.737 points. A total of 11 equities were active, of which two registered gains while another eight lost ground. A total turnover of €627,672 was generated over 81 deals.

The most liquid equity was Malta International Airport plc as total turnover amounted to €406,655. The equity did not manage to recoup its loss as it headed the list of fallers with a 10.53% decline, to close at €5.10. A total of 75,994 shares changed hands over 35 transactions. Yesterday, the company announced its traffic results for the month of February, whereby it registered a 17.3% growth when compared to the same month of the previous year. Despite this positive performance, travel demand dropped significantly in the last week of the month due to the Covid-19 outbreak in Europe.

In the banking sector, Bank of Valletta plc was up by 0.97% as 12 deals involving 74,123 shares were executed. Price increased to €1.04 and a total turnover of €76,394 shares was recorded.

Similarly, FIMBank plc registered a positive 8.62% change in price, as it closed at $0.63. Total turnover stood at €41,981 was generated as 69,175 shares changed hands over seven transactions.

On the other hand, HSBC Bank Malta plc lost 2.86% as it closed at €1.02. Six deals involving 25,117 shares generated a total turnover of €26,047.

Telecommunications company, GO plc, traded once over 2,000 shares, worth €8,400. As a result, price declined by 0.47% as it ended the session at €4.20. On a similar note, its subsidiary, BMIT Technologies plc, closed 3.64% lower at €0.53. This was the outcome of two deals with a mix of 7,000 shares, which generated a total turnover of €3,710.

Seven deals involving 48,894 International Hotel Investments plc dragged the price by 8.11%, reaching the €0.68 price level. Total turnover amounted to €33,126.

In the property sector, MIDI plc traded twice over a spread of 15,000 shares, which resulted into a 0.45% fall in price, to close at €0.44. The equity registered a total turnover of €6,610. Similarly, Malta Properties Company plc executed one deal of slim volume, ending the session 1.56% lower at €0.63.

Retail conglomerate, PG plc, closed in the red with a 0.52% decline to reach the €1.90 price level. The equity recorded a total turnover of €12,388 as two deals involving 6,520 shares were executed. Similarly, Simonds Farsons Cisk plc traded three times on slim volume to close 0.91% lower at €10.90. The equity registered a total turnover of €4,940.

Elsewhere, Mapfre Middlesea plc was active but closed unchanged at €2.32.

In the Sovereign Debt market, seven issues were active, of which one headed north while the rest closed in the opposite direction. The only positive performer was the 5.25% MGS 2030 (I) as it closed 0.44% higher at €151.85. Meanwhile, the 2.4% MGS 2041 (I) traded 1.57% lower, ending the session at €133.21.

In the Corporate Debt market, out of 30 active issues, seven advanced while another 17 closed in negative territory. The best performer was the 3.75% Bortex Group Finance plc Unsecured € 2027 as it closed 5.34% higher at €105.55. Conversely, the 5.3% Mariner Finance plc Unsecured € 2024 lost 3.21%, to close at €105.50.

In the Prospects MTF market, eight issues were active, of which one traded higher while another four closed in the red. The 5.35% D Shopping Malls Finance plc € Unsecured 2028 registered a positive 0.05% change in price, as it ended the session at €99.40.
