MSE Index declines by a further 2.25%

MSE Daily Trading Report, 18 March, 2020

The MSE Equity Total Return Index extended its loss as it closed 2.25% lower at 8,055.672 points. Nine equities were active of which one traded higher while the rest closed in the red. A total turnover of €454,773 was generated over 88 deals.

In the banking industry, HSBC Bank Malta plc announced that due to the current Covid-19 situation, the Annual General Meeting (AGM) shall be postponed to another day when circumstances allow. The bank decided to still proceed with the payment of dividend to its shareholders. This shall be paid on April 15, 2020 to all shareholder listed on the registers as at March 9, 2020.

Nine deals involving 27,177 shares were executed, dragging the price 5.21% downwards to €0.91. A total turnover of €25,741 was recorded.

Similarly, its peer, Bank of Valletta plc extended its decline by 5%, as it closed at €0.95. This was the result of 32,915 shares spread over 12 transactions, generating a total turnover of €32,455.

Lombard Bank Malta plc also ended the session in negative territory as one deal of 6,986 shares was executed. Price was down by 0.94% to €2.10 while total turnover stood at €14,671.

Highest liquidity was recorded by Malta International Airport plc as total turnover amounted to €146,408. Price declined by a further 8.16% to €4.50 as 31,795 shares changed hands over 26 transactions.

The only positive performer was BMIT Technology plc which registered high liquidity as total turnover stood at €114,946. The equity traded 18 times over a mix of 232,300 shares, ending the session with a positive 1.63% change in price, to close at €0.50.

Nine deals involving 34,250 RS2 Software plc dragged price 1.50% downwards to €1.97. A total turnover of €66,417 was recorded.

Another equity trading in the red was Mapfre Middlesea plc, as it closed at €2.26, translating into a 1.74% decline. Six deals involving 17,157 shares generated a total turnover of €39,158.

In the property sector, Malta Properties Company plc executed 19,400 shares over six transactions. The equity registered a total turnover of €9,944 while price was down by 4.76% to €0.50.

A sole deal of 3,700 Santumas Shareholdings plc shares resulted into a 9.33% decline in price. The equity generated a total turnover of €5,032 while price closed at €1.36.

MIDI plc announced that the board is scheduled to meet on April 25,2020 to consider, and if deemed fit, approve, the audited financial statements for the year ended December 31, 2019.  During the meeting, the board will consider the declaration of dividend to be recommended to its shareholders at the AGM, to be held on June 15, 2020.

Trident Estates plc announced that the company is monitoring the current situations for any potential impact on the operations of the group. So far, the Trident Park development project is progressing in line with timelines, which should allow the company to have its firsts tenants in the first quarter of 2021. However, this depends on any measures which might be imposed by the government, which might impact the company’s operations, availability of resources and the performance of the group’s contractors and suppliers. It is therefore difficult to quantify the potential effects on the project, revenues and profitability of the group. The company is committed to safeguard the wellbeing of all its stakeholders while keeping in line with government and health authority’s recommendations.

In the Sovereign Debt market, all 15 active issues closed in the red. The largest decline in price was recorded by the 2.4% MGS 2041 (I) as it close 3.03% lower at €120.

In the Corporate Debt market, 32 issues were active, of which six headed north while another 18 closed in the opposite directions. The best performer was the 3.65% GAP Group plc Secured € 2022 as it closed 1.5% higher at €101.50. Conversely, the 6% AX Investments Plc € 2024 lost 10.67%, as it ended the session at €100.05.

In the Prospects MTF market, both active issues lost ground.
