MSE Index extends negative trend

MSE Daily Trading Report, 22 July 2020

The MSE Equity Total Return Index closed in the red for the sixth consecutive day as it reached 8,067.786, translating into a 0.077% decline. Eight equities were active, of which four headed north while another three closed in the opposite direction. A total turnover of €80,586 was generated across 23 transactions.

The highest liquidity was recorded in the banking industry, as Bank of Valletta plc generated a total turnover of €33,280. Nine deals involving 35,010 shares were executed, leaving no impact on the equity’s previous closing price of €0.95.

A sole deal of 8,050 HSBC Bank Malta plc shares dragged the price by 1.04% into the red, ending the session at €0.95. Total turnover stood at €7,648.

Meanwhile, Lombard Bank Malta plc was also active as it closed 0.98% higher over a sold deal of 1,000 shares, worth €2,060. The bank closed two cents higher at €2.06.

Today’s top performer was GlobalCapital plc with an 8.33% change in price, reaching the €0.39 price level. A total turnover of €17,562 was generated as 47,596 shares were spread across five transactions.

Similarly, Plaza Centres plc was up by 7.65% as a result of a single deal worth €3,660. The equity’s price increased to €0.915 as 4,000 shares were executed.

Telecommunications company, GO plc¸also closed in positive territory at €3.44, equivalent to a 0.58% movement in price. Two deals involving 1,000 shares resulted into a total turnover of €3,422. On the other hand, its subsidiary, BMIT Technologies plc, headed the list of fallers with a 2.06% change, ending the session at €0.476. A total of 10,200 shares changed hands over three deals, generating a total turnover of €4,855.

International Hotel Investments plc traded once over 15,000 shares, to close 0.92% lower at €0.54. The equity recorded a total turnover of €8,100.

Malta International Airport plc announced the Annual General Meeting has been postponed to November 11, 2020, for the health and safety of the company’s shareholders. Meanwhile, the board is scheduled to meet on July 29, 2020, to consider, and if deemed fit, approve the company’s interim financial statements for the first six months of the year ended June 30, 2020.

No trading activity was recorded during the session.

In the Corporate Debt market, nine issues were active, of which gainers and losers tallied to two a-piece. The 3.75% Mercury Projects Finance plc Secured € 2027 registered the best performance as it closed 0.25% higher at €101.25. Conversely, the 3.85% Hili Finance Company plc Unsecured € 2028 declined by 1.02% to €97.00.

In the Sovereign Bond market, out of 10 active issues, five advanced while another three closed in the red. The 4.5% MGS 2028 (II) headed the list of gainers as it closed 2.26% higher at €132.94. On the other hand, the 2.5% MGS 2036 (I) lost 0.78%, ending the session at €127.00.

In the Prospects MTF market, the 5.5% Anchovy Studios plc € Unsecured 2027 was active but remained unchanged at par.
