Mark Azzopardi is an Executive Director at Jesmond Mizzi Financial Advisors Limited, responsible for Asset Management and Corporate Advisory Services. He holds various directorships and he is Chairman of the investment committee of Merill SICAV plc . He is also a shareholder through a holding company. 

His career in Finance started in Geneva with Edmond De Rothschild Group where he used to assist in devising risk management strategies for institutional clients. Following the stint in Geneva, Mark moved back to Malta where he held the post of chief financial analyst at a publicly listed financial services organisation and was an investment committee member on two SICAVs. 

In 2002 Mark co-founded Jesmond Mizzi Financial Services Limited, an investment services firm with a Category 2 Investment Services licence issued by the Malta Financial Services Authority (MFSA). In 2015 he set up Merill SICAV plc, a multi-fund public limited liability investment company with variable share capital (SICAV), licensed as a collective investment scheme by the MFSA. 

Mark obtained a degree in Bachelors of Commerce, majoring in Economics and Management from the University of Malta and a Masters of Arts in Finance from Webster University London, specialising in financial risk management and structured investment products. 

In December 2010 he graduated magna cum laude with a doctorate degree in business administration specialising in alternative investment strategies. His doctoral research showed how pension funds’ deficits can be reduced by coordinating assets with liabilities through a combination of new investment concepts namely liability driven investments and portable alpha. This research was approved and published as one of the main works by two prestigious eJournals: Mutual Funds, Hedge Funds and Investment Industry eJournal Vol 3, Issue 19, February 15, 2011; and Pension Risk Management eJournal Vol 5, Issue 7, February 10, 2011. 

Mark is also a visiting lecturer at the University of Malta.
