MSE Weekly Round-Up Report: 3rd — 7th September2007

IT company 6pm offers shares to investors.

The local bourse edged 0.25 % higher during a week, which saw Middlesea Insurance plc, and Simonds Farsons Cisk plc shares register price increases, while GlobalCapital plc, HSBC Bank Malta plc, BOV plc, Maltacom plc and International Hotel Investments plc shares closed in negative territory. The Malta Stock Exchange Index closed 12 points higher at the 4,919.997 level, 0.95% higher since the beginning of the year.

Trading in the equity market was lower than last week as the value traded was just under Lm530,000 with the number of deals being 169.Corporate bonds traded reach only Lm52,000 whilst government bonds totalled Lm831,000 and treasury bills totalled Lm668,000. The total value transacted during the week reached Lm2.12 million or Euros 4.95 million.

In the banking sector, FIMBank plc traded the highest volume of shares, totalling 132,506 shares across six deals. FIMBank closed the week at Lm 1.940, being the same closing price of last week.

Bank of Valletta plc had a very tough week, when its share price fell for three consecutive days, but then recovered in the final two days of the week. BOV traded fifty-two deals, as 50,704 shares changed hands. Its lowest price traded was Lm 3.595, but closed the week at Lm 3.629, 0.58% lower than last week.

HSBC Bank Malta plc share price fell by 0.05% this week, closing at Lm 1.929. In total, 34,688 shares change hands in thirty-four deals.

Maltacom plc registered twenty-one deals during the week with a turnover of 57,067 shares. The price of Maltacom fell by 1mil as the equity traded at a low of Lm1.375 but recovered to close the week at Lm1.40.

Medserv plc was just as active as 34,800 shares changed hands in the price range of Lm1.595 and Lm1.60. On Monday the company announced its financial results for the first six months and reported a loss before tax of Lm227,422 compared to a profit of 233,044 earned in the same period last year.

Malta International Airport was also relatively active as 34,870 shares changed hands in 21 deals as the equity retained last weeks price of Lm1.40.

On two deals with a volume of 525 shares GlobalCapital’s share price lost 4.1% on the week.

Middlesea Insurance plc gained 1.2% and Simonds Farsons Cisk gained 0.98% with turnover in both cases being very low. The only other equity that traded during the week was International Hotel Investments, which closed the week at Euros 1.099.

On Monday, Grand Harbour Marina announced their results for the first six months and reported a loss before tax of Lm208,542 compared to a profit of Lm659,302. It was also announced that the Listing Authority had granted the required dispensation for the Company to regain the listing on the Malta Stock Exchange.

In a press release and at a meeting for stockbrokers and financial intermediaries on Monday, it was announced that IT Company 6pm Holdings p.l.c. is likely to join the local Stock Market when it floats later this month. It is expected to be valued at around Stg 5 million. 6pm currently employs 105 staff, had sales of Stg 6.5 million in the year to December 2006. Revenues for the current year should be in line with last year but with a marked improvement in profitability. The Issue will be an Intermediaries Offer and investors should obtain more details from their financial intermediaries or stockbrokers.
