Chart of the Week: HSBC Bank Malta plc

Highlights:
  • The MSE Equity Total Return Index ended the week with a 0.579% fall to 9,850.24 points. Out of 21 active equities, 12 registered gains while another four closed in the red. A total weekly turnover of €0.7 million was generated over 152 deals.
  • Malta International Airport plc was one of the main drivers for the week’s decline as it headed the list of fallers with a 7.69% movement in price to €7.20. A total of 17,610 shares changed ownership across 20 deals, generating a total weekly turnover of €127,433.
  • In the banking sector, Bank of Valletta plc  continued its positive rally as it closed 1.32% higher, reaching a ten-week high of €1.155. A total weekly turnover of €40,763 was recorded as 15 transactions involving 35,246 shares were executed.
  • Its peer, HSBC Bank Malta plc closed at a 15-year low of €1.42 despite trading at €1.43 during the week. Such decline translates to a 3.4% change, as a result of 17 deals involving 51,870 shares. Total turnover stood at €73,856.
  • Lombard Bank plc registered a positive 6.6% movement, as its closing price stood at €2.26. Four deals involving 40,389 shares generated a total turnover of €90,211.
  • Following its previous 0.91% decrease, GO plc managed to bounce back as it closed 0.92% higher at €4.40. A total turnover of €90,211 was generated as 40,389 shares changed hands over four transactions.
  • On Wednesday, the Board of Trident Estates plc approved for publication its unaudited financial statements for the half-year period ended July 31, 2019. Profit before tax increased by 26% to €135,000 when compared to the figure recorded during the same period last year.
  • Last Friday, Santumas Shareholdngs plc announced that its Annual General Meeting shall be held on October 11, 2019 for the purpose of considering and approving the annual report and financial statements for the year ended April 30, 2019 and other ordinary resolutions.
  • On the corporate debt front, 36 issues were active, of which 12 headed north while another 14 closed in the opposite direction.
  • In the sovereign debt market, out of 21 active issues, gainers and losers tallied to ten apiece.
