MSE Daily Trading Report, 24 October, 2019

The MSE Equity Total Return Index returned to positive territory, as it closed 0.765% higher at 9,841.483 points. A total of 16 equities were active, of which four headed north while another five closed in the opposite direction. A total turnover of €388,621 was generated over 55 deals.

In the banking sector, four equities were active, of which three traded higher while another one closed unchanged. Bank of Valletta plc was up by 0.92% to €1.10, as 11 deals involving 43,723 shares were executed. Total turnover stood at €47,750.

Its peer, HSBC Bank Malta plc, also registered a positive 0.79% price movement, to close at €1.27. 7,544 shares changed ownership across five deals, as a total turnover of €9,600 was recorded.

Meanwhile, both Lombard Bank Malta plc and FIMBank plc were active. The former traded only once to close unchanged at €2.26, while the latter appreciated by 1.59%, to close at $0.64. FIMBank plc was active on three occasions, in which a total of 30,015 shares changed hands.

The best performer was International Hotel Investments plc as a single deal of 1,175 shares left a positive 8.97% impact on the price, to close at €0.85.

On the other end of the spectrum, Trident Estates plc headed the list of fallers, as it declined by 13.98% to settle at €1.60. Such decline resulted from just a single deal on mere volume. Total turnover amounted to €2,523.

The most liquid equity was MIDI plc as 287,588 shares changed hands across four deals. This resulted into a 2.08% decline in price, to close at €0.705. Total turnover stood at €202,751.

In the property sector, Malta Properties Company plc was also active over two deals. Its previous closing price of €0.67 was not impacted.

Three deals involving 7,000 Medserv plc shares dragged its price down by a 3.23%, to close at €1.20. A total turnover of €8,367 was generated.

A sole deal of 350 PG plc shares resulted into a 1.07% decline, to close at €1.85. Similarly, GO plc lost 0.46%, to close at €4.34, as seven deals involving 7,500 shares were executed. As a result, a total turnover of €31,799 was recorded.

In the retail sector, Plaza Centres plc and Main Street Shopping Complex plc were both active but closed unchanged at €1.03 and €0.60 respectively. Elsewhere, Simonds Farsons Cisk plc and BMIT Technologies plc experienced the same fate as they also closed unchanged at €12.10 and €0.53.

Malta International Airport plc traded four times over 2,080 shares. A total turnover of €15,145 was generated and the price was left unaltered at €7.25.

In the corporate debt market, out of 27 active issues, 13 registered a loss while the 4% Stivala Group Finance plc Secured € 2027 advanced by 0.48%, to close at €105.

In the sovereign debt market, 11 issues were active, of which three advanced while the rest closed in the red. The 2.1% MGS 2039 (I) headed the list of gainers, as it settled at €129 – resulting into a 1.18% increase.
