MSE Index extends its negative run

MSE Daily Trading Report, 12 November, 2019

The MSE Equity Total Return Index declined by a further 0.110%, to 9,831.521 points. A total of 11 equities were active, of which one headed north while six closed in the red. A total turnover of €390817 was generated over 40 deals.

Malta International Airport contributed heavily to the fall, as eight deals involving 14,000 shares dragged the price 1.36% lower to €7.25. Total turnover stood at €101,508 – ranking it as the most liquid asset for today’s session.

In the banking sector, only Bank of Valletta plc was active. Ten deals involving 29,557 shares did not have any impact on its previous closing price of €1.10, despite reaching a high of €1.12 during the session. A total turnover of €32,786 was recorded.

The only gainer was RS2 Software plc, as two deals involving 9,400 shares pushed the price 3.77% higher to €2.20.

PG plc headed the list of fallers as it was down by 3.80%, to close at €1.77. Two trades with a spread of 11,900 shares generated a total turnover of €21,063.

Three equities were active in the property sector. Santumas Shareholdings plc did not manage to sustain its recent positive performance, as it registered a 1.41% loss, to close at €1.40. Two deals involving 5,393 shares generated a total turnover of €7,600.

Similarly, MIDI plc also closed 0.70% lower at €0.71, as a sole deal of 30,000 shares was executed. Total turnover stood at €21,300.

Meanwhile, Malta Properties Company plc was active on slim volume, as two transactions were executed. Its previous closing price of €0.66 was left unaltered.

During the day Trident Estates plc announced that the board resolved to allot 12,000,003 new ordinary shares with a nominal value of €1.00, in accordance with the allocation results. The shares were admitted to listing on the official list of the Malta Stock Exchange today, and trading is expected to commence tomorrow, November 12, 2019. Elsewhere, Main Street Complex plc issued its interim directors’ report for the first three quarters of 2019. Both companies were not active in today’s session.

Telecommunications Company, GO plc, lost a further 0.47% as it closed at €4.22. A total turnover of €95,539 was generated as 22,620 shares changed hands across five deals. On the other hand, its subsidiary, BMIT Technologies plc was also active, as it traded three times over a spread of 123,000 shares. The price was however left unchanged at €0.52 and total turnover amounted to €63,960.

Mapfre Middlesea plc continued to trade in negative territory, as it closed 0.93% lower at €2.14. Total turnover stood at €21,999 as 10,280 shares changed ownership over two trades.

MaltaPost plc, was also active but closed unchanged at €1.25. The equity was active over three deals involving 3,329 shares – worth €4,136.

In the corporate debt market, 19 issues were active, of which five headed north while another 11 closed in the opposite direction. The best performer was the 4.35% SD Finance plc Unsecured € 2027, as it closed 1.28% higher at €103.93. The company announced that the board is scheduled to meet on November 27, 2019 to consider, and if deemed fit, approve the unaudited interim financial statements for the period ending September 30, 2019.

In the sovereign debt market, out of seven active issues, only the 2.5% MGS 2036 (I) closed in positive territory as the price was up by 0.02% to close at €128.
