Major banks push MSE Index into the green

The MSE Equity Total Return Index returned to positive territory with a 0.299% increase to 9,642.154 points. Seven equities were active, of which two headed north while another three closed in the opposite direction. A total turnover of €140,822 was generated across 39 deals.
The two active banking equities, Bank of Valletta plc and HSBC Bank Malta plc kicked off the week on a positive note, as both traded higher. BOV was up by 1.42% to €1.075 as 15 deals involving 42,504 shares were executed. Total turnover stood at €45,127.
Similarly, three deals with a spread of 1,400 HSBC shares pushed the price 4.17% higher to €1.25. As a result, a total turnover of €1,754 was generated.
On the other end of the spectrum, Malta International Airport plc declined by 0.70%, to close at €7.10. This was the result of three deals involving 1,270 shares. A total turnover of €9,017 was recorded.
Medserv plc recorded the highest liquidity, as 58,080 shares spread over 11 transactions generated a total turnover of €66,224. The equity headed the list of fallers – with an 11.20% decrease, to close at €1.11.
In the property sector, MIDI plc traded five times over 14,500 shares. A total turnover of €9,727 was generated and price declined by 0.78%, to close at €0.64.
Elsewhere, BMIT Technologies plc and PG plc both traded once but closed unchanged at €0.51 and €1.75, respectively.
In the corporate debt market, 13 out of 26 active issues advanced while another three lost ground. The best performance was registered by the 3.75% Mercury Projects Finance plc Secured € 2027, as it closed 5.21% higher at €99.95.
In the sovereign debt market, all 11 active issued declined as yields headed north. The 2.1% MGS 2039 (I) recorded the largest decline in price of 2.68%, to close €121.99.
