Another negative session for the MSE Index

The MSE Equity Total Return Index closed in the red once again, as it declined by 0.620%, to close at 9,483.926 – a 32-week low. A total of 12 equities were active, of which six lost ground while the rest closed unchanged. A total turnover of €516,177 was generated over 67 deals.

In the banking industry, Bank of Valletta plc traded 0.94% lower, to close at €1.05. This was the result of 27 deals involving 91,143 shares. A total turnover of €95,786 was recorded. The Bank was once again in the news today as it is being reported that the European Commission has given the Maltese Government up until tomorrow to disclose what effective measures has the Bank adopted to tackle, what the ECB referred to as suspicious proceeds derived from the cash for passports scheme.

A sole deal of 1,976 HSBC Bank Malta plc shares did not impact the previous closing price of €1.20. Similarly, Lombard Bank plc traded twice over a spread of 3,496 shares but closed unchanged at €2.26.

The most liquid equity was GO plc, as it registered a total turnover of €214,817. Six deals involving 51,400 shares were executed – ending the session 0.96% lower at €4.14.  Meanwhile, its subsidiary, BMIT Technologies plc, was also active but closed unchanged at €0.51.

Six deals involving 46,000 RS2 Software plc shares had no impact on the equity’s previous closing price of €2.10. Total turnover stood at €96,600.

Moving on to the property sector, MIDI plc registered a further 0.96% loss, to close at €0.515. A total of 61,300 shares changed ownership over five deals and generating a total turnover of €31,670. Despite trading only once on slim volume, Malta Properties Company plc headed the list of fallers, as price was down by 7.80%, to close at €0.65.

Meanwhile, Tigne’ Mall plc was also active with a single deal of 4,490 shares but closed unchanged at €0.90.

Plaza Centres plc ended the session 0.98% lower at €1.01, as 20,000 shares changed hands across two transactions. Total turnover amounted to €20,230.

Seven deals involving a total of 22,422 International Hotel Investments plc shares dragged the price 2.47% lower, to close €0.79. This resulted into a total turnover of €18,008.

Malta International Airport plc traded on four occasions but closed unchanged at €7.10. Total turnover amounted to €8,694 and a total of 1,233 changed ownership.

In the corporate debt market, 30 issues were active, of which seven headed north while 14 closed in the opposite direction. The best performance was registered by the 4% International Hotel Investments plc Unsecured € 2026 FI, as it closed 1.48% higher at €101.50.

In the sovereign debt market, out of 19 active issues, 12 registered gains while six traded lower. The 5.25% MGS 2030 (I) headed the list of gainers with a 1.46% increase, to close at €152.
