MSE Index extends its negative trend

MSE Daily Trading Report, 09 December, 2019

The MSE Equity Total Return Index kicked off the week on a negative note as it declined by a further 0.312% to 9,393.067 points. A total of 10 equities were active, of which gainers and losers tallied to three apiece. A total turnover of €90,350 was generated across 30 transactions.

In the banking sector, both Bank of Valletta plc and HSBC Bank Malta plc lost ground. BOV reached an intra-day low of €1.015 but eventually settled slightly higher at €1.02, translating into a 2.86% decline. The equity was the most liquid as 13 deals involving 44,845 shares generated a total turnover of €46,498.

HSBC also closed in the red with a 1.67% decline to €1.18. Four deals with a spread of 7,329 shares were executed. A total turnover of €8,780 was recorded.

Four equities were active in the property sector. MIDI plc headed the list of fallers as it lost a further 2.91%, closing at €0.50. A total turnover of €7,000 was generated as three deals involving 14,000 shares were executed.

On the other hand, a sole deal of 770 Santumas Shareholdings plc shares pushed the price 0.71% higher to €1.41.

Meanwhile, Malta Properties Company plc and Tigne’ Mall plc were both active but the prices were left unaltered at €0.65 and €0.90, respectively.

PG plc traded once on slim volume. As a result, the equity registered a 0.56% increase, to close at €1.79.

The best performer was International Hotel Investments plc as it ended the session 2.65% higher at €0.775. A total turnover of €14,711 was generated as it traded two times over a spread of 18,982 shares.

Elsewhere, GO plc and RS2 Software plc were both active but closed unchanged at €4.14 and €2.08, respectively.

In the corporate debt market, out of 19 active issues, five advanced while another six lost ground. The 5.1% 1923 Investments plc Unsecured € 2024 headed the list of gainers as it registered a 1.50% increase, to close at €101.50.

In the sovereign debt market, 13 issues were active, of which four headed north while the rest closed in the opposite direction. The best performance was registered by the 4.1% MGS 2034 (I) as it closed 0.36% higher at €152. At the other end of the spectrum, the 2.4% MGS 2041 (I) lost a substantial 2.35% to close at €132.80.
