MSE Total Return Index registers largest daily increase for 2019

MSE Daily Trading Report, 30 December, 2019

The MSE Equity Total Return Index closed off the year registering the largest daily increase for 2019, that of 2.208% at 9,615.70 points. A total of eight equities where active during the session of which six gained ground while two remained unchanged. A total turnover of €74,715 was generated across 26 deals.

HSBC Bank Malta plc topped the list of gainers as two trades amounting to 500 shares were enough to lift the price of the equity by 10.2 % to close the session at the €1.30 price level.

International Hotel Investments plc followed suit as the equity spiked by 7.8 % to close at the €0.83 price level. A total turnover of €19,362 was generated between five trades.

Meanwhile, MIDI plc shares recouped some lost ground as the equity rose by a substantial 8.00 % to close the session at €0.54. A total of 49,399 shares changed hands over five deals.

A total of 1,000 shares split over three deals in GO plc pushed the price of the equity upwards by 2.40% to close the session at €4.26.

Meanwhile, its subsidiary BMIT Technologies plc also traded in positive territory as the equity close the session 3% higher at €0.52. A total turnover of €8,887 was generated between five transactions.

On the same note, Maltapost plc shares headed north by 0.77% to close at €1.31. A total turnover of €5,983 was split between three deals.

Elsewhere, Bank of Valletta plc and Trident Estates plc were also active on slim volumes but remained unchanged at €1.06 and €1.55 respectively.

In the corporate debt market a total of 20 issues where active of which six lost ground, while five headed north. The 4% Stivala Group Finance plc Secured € 2027 registered the highest price increase during the session as the bond price increased by 2% to €102. On the other hand, 4.25% Mercury Projects Finance plc Secured € 2031 registered the largest decline during the session as the bond price declined by 1.17% to €101.

In the Sovereign debt front, a total of six issues where active of which three headed higher while one advanced. The 5.2% MGS 2031 (I) registered the largest decline during the session as the bond price declined by 3.47% to €152.51.
