MSE Index starts the week in the red

MSE Daily Trading Report, 20 April, 2020

The MSE Equity Total Return Index ended the session in negative territory as it lost 0.414%, to close at 8,035.943 points. A total of 13 equities were active, of which three headed north while another four closed in the opposite direction. A total turnover of €375,774 was generated over 45 deals.

Today’s three positive performers were all in the property sector. Malta Properties Company plc headed the list of gainers with a double-digit gain of 13.33%, to close at €0.595. The equity traded twice over a mix of 2,151 shares, worth €1,281.

A sole deal of 18,000 MIDI plc share pushed price 5.56% upwards, reaching the €0.38 price level. A total turnover of €6,840 was recorded. Similarly, one deal of 9,000 Trident Estates plc shares resulted into a positive 2.27% change in price. The equity ended the session at €1.35 and generated a total turnover of €12,150.

Malita Investment plc traded once over 3,750 shares but closed unchanged at €0.80. Total turnover stood at €3,000.

Meanwhile, Tigne’ Mall plc announced that the board has approve the audited financial statements for the year ended December 31, 2019. These shall be approved by the shareholders at the Annual General Meeting, to be held at a later stage when circumstances allow. The company’s revenues were up by 7.5% to €7 million when compares to the previous year. This was an anticipated increase, in line with an increase in direct costs. Meanwhile, operating profits advanced by 6.5% to €4.4 million from the previous year.  Due to the current situation, the company shall not be paying further dividends with respect to the 2019 financial results, to preserve its liquidity in the coming months.

No trading activity was recorded.

Simonds Farsons Cisk plc registered the highest liquidity during today’s session as total turnover stood at €91,699. Nine deals involving 11,337 shares dragged price 5.88% lower to €8.00.

Similarly, PG plc, recorded a total turnover of €85,631 as 47,573 shares changed hands across five transactions. The equity’s previous closing price of €1.80 was not impacted.

Two equities were active in the banking industry, both of which closed unchanged. Bank of Valletta plc closed at €1.02 and generated a total turnover of €21,231. Seven deals involving 20,757 shares were executed. Its peer, HSBC Bank Malta plc, executed three deals with a spread of 34,290 shares, worth €33,261. The bank closed flat at €0.97.

Malta International Airport plc declined by 0.4% as it ended the session at €4.98. The equity traded nine times over a spread of 11,018 shares. A total turnover of €54,917 was generated.

Telecommunications company, GO plc, ended the session with a negative 3.09% change in price, as it close at €3.76. Total turnover amounted to €38,751 as 10,298 shares changed hands over two deals. On a similar note, BMIT Technologies plc lost 0.41%, as it reached the €0.488 price level. This resulted from a single deal of 23,000 shares, worth €11,224.

RS2 Software plc was active but closed unchanged at €1.90. The equity executed 7,000 shares over three transactions. A total turnover of €13,300 was recorded.

A single deal of 4,181 International Hotel Investments plc shares did not alter the equity’s previous closing price of €0.595. Total turnover stood at €2,488.

In the Sovereign Debt market, seven issues were active, of which three declined as yields headed north. The 2.5% MGS 2036 (I) traded 6.07% lower, to close at €124.93.

In the Corporate Debt market, 20 issues were active, of which 11 advanced while another two closed in the red. The best performer was the 4% Eden Finance plc Unsecured € 2027 as it closed 2.04% higher, reaching its par value. On the other hand, the 4.4% Von der Heyden Group Finance plc Unsecured € 2024 closed 1.99% lower at €98.00.

In the Prospects MTF market, eight issues were active, of which four registered gains while two lost ground. The 4.75% Orion Finance plc € Unsecured 2027 registered the highest liquidity as total turnover stood at €89,550. The bond traded 0.51% higher, to close at €99.50.
