MSE Index recoups lost ground

MSE Daily Trading Report, 05 May 2020

The MSE Equity Total Return Index managed to recoup its previous loss as it closed 1.346% higher at 8,231.689 points. Out of 10 active issues, five registered gains while one traded lower. Low trading activity was recorded during today’s session as a total turnover of €66,421 was generated across 24 transactions

Bank of Valletta plc erased yesterday’s loss as it closed 0.96% higher – reaching the €1.05 price level. A sole deal of 4,720 shares generated a total turnover of €4,956.

Meanwhile, HSBC Bank Malta plc was active but closed unchanged at €1.02. A total of 6,890 shares changed ownership over four deals, worth €7.028.

The top performer was GO plc as it advanced by 7.22%, to close at €3.86. Four deals involving 2,405 shares were executed, generating a total turnover of €8,855.

International Hotel Investments plc was up by 1.72% as 2,100 shares were spread across two transactions. The equity ended the session at €0.59. IHI announced that in light of the current circumstances, the scaling down process of the operations of the Azure Group has run its natural course, and a liquidation process has commenced. The company ensures that this is done properly and that timeshare owners will continue to enjoy the same services and benefits. Any action taken with the company’s employees shall be done in line with local regulation. IHI owns 50% of the Golden Sands Resort and the Azure Group. The remaining half is owned by foreign investors specializing in timeshare resort operations. The shareholders have reaffirmed that the Golden Sands Resort shall fully honour all timeshare commitments arising from obligations entered into with existing members.

Three deals involving 800 Malta International Airport plc shares pushed price 0.99% higher to €5.10. Total turnover stood at €4,078.

MaltaPost plc ended the session with a positive 0.83% change in price. Two deals involving 11,066 shares generated a total turnover of €13,373.

In the property sector, MIDI plc was the only negative performer as it closed at €0.39 – translating into a 1.52% decline. One deal of 13,000 shares was executed, worth €5,070.

RS2 Software plc was active but closed unchanged at €2.06. A total of 3,900 shares were spread across two transactions, generating a total turnover of €8,034.

Similarly, Simonds Farsons Cisk plc traded twice over 600 shares, leaving no impact on the equity’s previous closing price of €8.30. Total turnover stood at €4,980.

Main Street Complex plc also closed unchanged at €0.45. A total turnover of €8,826 was generated as three deals involving 19,613 shares were executed.

In the Sovereign Debt market, three issues were admitted to the Malta Stock Exchange’s official list, of which trading is expected to commence tomorrow. These are the 0.30% Malta Government Stock 2024 (IV), 0.40% Malta Government Stock 2026 (II) F.I. May 2020 and the 1.00% Malta Government Stock 2031 (II) F.I. May 2020.

During today’s trading session, a total of 11 issues were active, of which four headed north while another three closed in the opposite direction. The 4.8% MGS 2028 (I) headed the list of gainers as it closed 3.35% higher at €140.50. Conversely, the 2.1% MGS 2039 (I) closed 0.78% lower at €128.00.

In the Corporate Debt market, 20 issues were active, of which eight traded higher while another three closed in the red. The best performance was recorded by the 5.1% 6PM Holdings plc Unsecured € 2025 as it closed 4.84% higher at €99.60. On the other hand, the 4.25% Corinthia Finance plc Unsecured € 2026 and the 4% International Hotel Investments plc Secured € 2026 both closed 0.5% lower at €99.50.

In the Prospects MTF market, the 5.5% Yacht Lift Malta Plc Secured Callable Bonds € 2021-2025 was active as it closed at par, translating into a 0.99% decline.
