MSE Index ends the week on a negative note

MSE Daily Trading Report, 22 May 2020

The MSE Equity Total Return Index erased yesterday’s gains as it declined by  0.786% to 8,060.937 points. Out of eight active issues, a total of five closed in negative territory while the remaining three closed higher. A total turnover of €365,268 was generated across 31 transactions.

In the banking industry, both Bank of Valletta plc and HSBC Bank Malta plc shares closed the session in negative territory. BOV shares closed 1.92% lower at €1.02, as four deals involving 14,318 shares were executed, worth €14,863. HSBC shares closed the session 1.03% lower at €0.96 as 6,000 shares changed hands across two transactions. Total turnover stood at €5,800.

In the telecommunications sector, a single trade of 2,000 shares in GO plc saw the equity’s price increase by 1.12%, to close at €3.60. A total turnover of €7,200 was recorded.

An abnormal volume was registered in International Hotel Investment plc shares as 12 deals saw 524,902 shares exchange hands. The equity’s price declined by 4.42% to close at the €0.54 price level.

Malta International Airport plc shares closed the session in negative territory by 0.4% at €4.94. A total of seven deals involving 7,163 shares generated a total turnover of €35,799.

Main Street Complex plc shares gained 6.9% to close at the €0.496 price level. A total of three transactions managed to generate a total turnover of €10,804.

PG plc and Simonds Farsons Cisk plc traded on a slim volume, heading in the opposite direction closing at the €1.90 and €8.05

In the Sovereign Debt market, 11 issues were active, of which two declined while eight closed in positive territory. The 2.50% MGS 2036 (I) registered an increase of 5.08% to close the session €128.25.

In the Corporate Debt market, out of 13 active issues, three headed north while another four closed in the opposite direction. The 4% Eden Finance plc Unsecured 2027 registered an increase of 1% to close the session at €101.

In the Prospects MTF market, two issued were active. The 4.75% Gillieru Investments plc Secured Bonds 2028 traded 1.01% higher, to close at par.
