MSE Index continues to spiral

MSE Daily Trading Report, 03 July 2020

The MSE Equity Total Return Index registered another decline, as it went down by a further 0.465% to reach 8,267.49 points. Only 10 transactions were registered tallying a market turnover of €27,663. There were five active equities, three of which closed lower while the other two closed flat.

In the banking industry, Bank of Valletta plc erased yesterday’s gain as it closed 1.48% lower to reach the price level of €1.00. This was the outcome of a single transaction of 500 shares.

Meanwhile, its peer, HSBC Bank Malta plc was active but closed unchanged at €0.96. Three deals involving 6,112 shares were executed, worth €5,826.

In the tourism and hospitality sector, International Hotel Investments plc traded three times through which the equity price declined by 1.69% to close at €0.58.

A single trade of 24 Malta International Airport plc shares reduced the share price by 0.86% to close at €5.75.

MaltaPost plc was active but closed unchanged at €1.18. A total of 12,250 shares were spread over two deals, generating a total turnover of €14,480.

Meanwhile the following equities did not record any trading activity during the session.

GO plc announced that the Cablenet Board has authorised the submission of an application for authorisation for admissibility to listing to the Listing Authority requesting the approval of a prospectus in relation to proposed public issue of the bonds in Malta of 4% unsecured bonds with an aggregate principal amount of up to Euro 40,000,000. Application will be made, in respect of the bonds, to the Malta Stock Exchange for their admittance to the Official List and for trading to commence thereafter.

PG plc announced that it shall be meeting on July 9, 2020, to consider and, if deemed fit, approve, the distribution of an interim dividend for the financial year ending April 30, 2020.

Plaza Centres plc announced that due to the current extraordinary circumstances, and in the interest of shareholders it has decided to proceed with the payment a gross dividend of €0.0113 per share (net of tax). The dividend will accordingly still be paid on August 4, 2020 to those shareholders included in the shareholders register as at June 26, 2020. This decision will then be submitted for the confirmation of the shareholders at the Annual General Meeting that will be held when circumstances allow.

In the Corporate Debt market, 21 issues were active, of which four headed north while another eight closed in the opposite direction. The 3.25% AX Group plc Unsec Bds 2026 Series I headed the list of gainers as it closed 1.99% higher at €102.00. On the other hand, the 5.8% International Hotel Investments plc 2023 lost 2.91%, reaching its par value.

In the Sovereign Bond market, out of 10 active issues, five registered gains while the 2.4% MGS 2041 (I) declined by 3.85%, to close at €125.00. The best performer was the 2.5% MGS 2036 (I) as it ended the session 5.87% higher at €126.00.

In the Prospects MTF market, the 4.75% Gillieru Investments plc Secured Bonds 2028 was the sole issuance traded. Two transactions reduced the price back to par value.
