Sovereign Debt Changes Stance to Negative

The MSE Equity Total Return Index, sustained its negative stance registering a 0.133% decline, to close the session at 9,769.838 points. Today’s action was spread over eight equities, of which the gainers and fallers both tallied to two, while the remainder traded unchanged. Deals executed tallied to a total of 45, with a market value of €255,931.

RS2 Software plc shares, took most of the trading action, with 20 exchanges. The equity traded back and forth in the range of €1.85 and €1.92, to close unchanged at €1.91. Yesterday the company announced its interim results, reporting a profit of €4.0 million compared to last year’s €2.7 million.  

Shares of International Hotels Investments plc headed the fallers, declining 3.9% to close at €0.74. Eight deals of 94,106 shares were traded. Today the company announced its interim results reporting a profit after tax of €3.7 million and an increase revenues.

From the banking sector Bank of Valletta plc extended their positive run for this week, adding 1.81% in the process. The equity closed at €1.125, over six transactions of 23,950 shares. Peers, HSBC Bank Malta plc’s shares remained flat, over two transactions of 4,300 shares, which failed to veer the equity from the €1.50 mark.

Shares of Medserv plc notched 0.84% higher to €1.20, over six trades of 30,750 shares. Oppositely shares of Santumas Shareholdings plc declined by 1.22% over a single transaction of 9,200 shares. Shares of both Simonds Farsons Cisk plc and Malita Investments plc both closed unchanged at €10.30 and € 0.845 respectively.

In the Corporate Debt Market, 22 issues were active, of which nine gained ground, another nine remained unchanged and four headed south. Trading totalled to value of €448,757 spread 49 transactions.  The 4.5% Hili Properties plc Unsecured € 2025, headed the gainers as it notched 1.56%, to close at €103.59. Oppositely a single trade pulled the 4% International Hotel Investments plc Unsecured € 2026 issue 0.48% lower at €103.00.

In the Sovereign Debt Market, 13 of the 14 active issues headed south, breaking this week’s upward trend, despite remaining in net positive territory for the week. Today’s retreat comes over 33 transactions worth in excess of €2.5 million.  The 3% MGS 2040 (I) conceded a significantly higher loss compared to its peers, declining 1.59% to close at €142.14. Oppositely the 5.1% MGS 2029 (I) was the only outlier as it gained a marginal 0.09% to close at €149.56.
