MSE Daily Trading Report, 23 January, 2020

Poor trading in today’s session has led to a further decrease of 0.63% in the MSE Equity Total Return Index – 9,429.986 points. A total of 24 trades were recorded across nine equities worth €240,544. Out of the nine equities traded four decreased in value, one increased and the rest closed unchanged.

In the banking sector, both Bank of Valletta plc and HSBC Bank Malta plc closed lower – 2.27% and 0.93% respectively. Both equities have reached a similar price level of €1.075 while the latter share price closed at €1.07. BOV’s equity performance was based on a single trade worth just over €10,000 while it’s peer’s share was exchanged five times tallying a market value of €11,859. Second to none, FIMBank plc traded flat thus remaining at a price level of $0.60.

PG plc was the only equity that closed in the green. The share price appreciated by 1.58% to end the session at €1.93.

On the other hand, Simonds Farsons Cisk plc closed 0.91% lower based on a mere 95 shares worth €1,036. Following suit was RS2 Software plc. This equity registered today’s highest loss – 2.63%, again based on a single trade, of 731 shares.

All remaining equities; GO plc, Malta International Airport plc and Tigne Mall plc closed flat.

Poor trading was also seen in the corporate debt market as only 22 deals were recorded with a turnover of €190,592. Eighteen issues were active from which three closed in the green and five closed in the red. The 4.5% Izola Bank plc € Unsecured 2025 issue registered the highest loss of 1.15% to close at €106.76.

Today’s main activity was generated in the sovereign debt market. A total of €1.36m turnover was recorded spread across 67 deals. The majority of these bonds increased in value thus reducing their yields. The 2.1% MGS 2039 (I) rallied by 7.44% to close at €130.

There was no trading recorded in the Prospects MTF market.
