MSE Index starts the week in the red

MSE Daily Trading Report, 02 March, 2020

The MSE Equity Total Return Index lost ground as it closed 0.647% lower at 9,382.479 points. A total of 10 issues were active, of which three headed north while another five closed in the opposite direction. A total turnover of €828,476 was generated over 52 transactions.

Three banks were active in the banking sector. Bank of Valletta plc traded 0.95% lower as nine deals involving 30,672 shares were executed. A total turnover of €32,054 was generated as price declined to €1.04. Similarly, FIMBank plc closed 6.03% lower at $0.545 as three deals involving 6,271 shares were executed.

HSBC Bank Malta plc registered high liquidity as total turnover stood at €316,050. A total of 301,000 shares changed ownership over 15 transactions. The bank’s previous closing price of €1.05 was not impacted.

International Hotel Investments plc announced that Corinthia Hotels Limited has entered into an agreement with United Development Company (UDC), to manage and operate a luxury Corinthia hotel in the Gewan Island. UDC is the Qatari master developer of The Pearl in Doha. This Corinthia Doha will be built in UDC’s newest flagship real estate development, Gewan Island. The development will also include luxury branded villas, a golf course and beach club, to be managed by the Corinthia Hotel.

The equity traded in negative territory as a spread of 8,000 shares, dragging the price by 2.60%, to close at €0.75. Total turnover amounted to €6,000.

Two deals involving 1,445 Malta International Airport plc shares left no impact on the equity’s previous closing price of €6.85. The equity registered a total turnover of €9,884.

Telecommunications company, GO plc, was up by 0.94% as it ended the session at €4.28. A total turnover of €6,368 was generated as 1,500 shares changed hands across two transactions.

The highest liquidity was recorded by RS2 Software plc as total turnover stood at €413,549. Price increased by 0.81%, reaching the €2.50 price level. This was the outcome of 10 deals involving 165,749 shares.

A sole deal of 4,900 PG plc shares pushed the price 2.04% higher, registering the best performance. The equity closed at €2.00 and recorded a total turnover of €9,800.

In the property sector, Malta Properties Company plc traded 8.96% lower as 34,700 shares were executed over seven deals. Price declined to €0.61 while total turnover amounted to €22,098.

Meanwhile, Mapfre Middlesea plc executed one deal of 4,113 shares which generated a total turnover of €9,542. As a result, price declined by 0.85%, to close at €2.32.

In the Sovereign Debt market, 17 issues were active, of which 14 registered gains while another two lost ground. The 5% MGS 2021(I) headed the list of gainers with a 0.55% increase in price, as it closed at €107.59. On the other hand, the 4.6% MGS 2020 (II) closed 0.19% lower at €100.71.

In the Corporate Debt market, out of 17 active issues, five advanced while eight closed in the red. The best performer was the 3.75% Bortex Group Finance plc Unsecured € 2027 as it closed 0.96% higher at €105.00. Last Friday, the board of Bortex Group Holdings Company Limited plc approved the annual report and audited consolidated financial statement for the year ended October 31, 2019. After taking into consideration depreciation, investment income and finance costs, the Group reported a profit before tax of €664,581 as opposed to a loss of €162,033 in the previous financial year. Conversely, the 6% AX Investments Plc € 2024 registered the worse performance as it closed 5.14% lower, ending the session at €108.62.

In the Prospects MTF market, four issues were active of which two traded lower while the rest closed unchanged. The 5% FES Finance plc Secured € 2029 registered a very high liquidity as 100,700 nominal were executed over five transactions.  The bond generated a total turnover of €101,707 and closed unchanged at €101.00.
