Major banks drag MSE Index into the red

The MSE Equity Total Return Index lost ground in today’s session. as it went down by 0.314% to close at 7,612.723 basis points. Nine equities were active, of which four headed north while another two closed in the opposite direction. Total turnover recorded was at €93,391, spread across 33 transactions.
The banking sector was of no help for the Index’s performance. Bank of Valletta plc and HSBC Bank Malta plc both closed in the red. The worst performer from the two was HSBC as it declined by 4.19% to close at €0.80. The equity registered the most trades at 14 which included 44,746 shares. Its peer, BOV closed a mere 1.1% lower to end the today’s session at €0.90.
GO plc shares recouped yesterday’s loss. Three trades helped the equity to surpass yesterday’s loss as it registered a 1.2% increase in price – to close at €3.36. Similarly, BMIT Technologies plc also recovered yesterday’s loss, as the equity price augmented by 2.15% to close at €0.476.
Harvest Technology plc closed in the green. The company’s share price went up by 1.39% over a single trade – reaching the €1.46 price level.
A couple of trades in Plaza Centres plc equity helped the share price to rise by a mere 0.54% to end the session at €0.935.
Malta International Airport plc, MaltaPost plc and Malita Investments plc all closed unchanged at €4.98, €1.10 and €0.92, respectively.
In the Corporate Debt market, out of nine active issues, two registered gains while another three closed in the red. The 5.8% International Hotel Investments plc 2021 issuance closed 3.09% higher to close at par value. On the other hand, the 5.1% 1923 Investments plc Unsecured € 2024 bond closed €0.50 lower at €99.50.
In the Sovereign Bond market, eight issues were active, of which all lost ground except for the 2.1% MGS 2039 (I) bond which traded flat. The 3% MGS 2040 (I) registered the largest decline in price of 9.09%, ending the session at €130.00.
In the Prospects MTF market, no trading activity was recorded.
